Shakti MB

Shakti MB graduated from University of Nottingham where she received a B.S. in Psychology. She then continued her education at Parsons School of Design and earned her M.A. in Design and Technology. Apart from being Progressive Pupil’s former Interactive Design Associate, she is currently a Product Design Intern at Spotify.

Lynda Nguyen

Lynda Nguyen graduated from The New School with a B.A./M.S. from the Urban Policy program at Milano and the Education Studies program at Eugene Lang. Reigning from Washington DC, she utilized her past experiences in grassroots organizing and community building to advocate for and support initiatives surrounding youth empowerment, equitable education, and racial/social justice. Currently, Ms. Nguyen is a Policy Consultant at Girls for Gender Equity, LLC.

Xiomara Pedraza

Xiomara Pedraza is a graduate of Occidental College where she received a B.A. in Critical Theory and Social Justice with an emphasis in Post Colonial Studies and a minor in Sociology. She then received her Masters of Science for the Urban Policy Analysis and Management program at The New School for Public Engagement. Ms. Pedraza is passionate about advocating for low-income and minority communities around issues of equity, education, and access. As the former Community Outreach Intern for Progressive Pupil, Xiomara supported the mission of the organization and helped develop and fund collaborations with organizations, campaigns, and scholars based in NYC, nationally and internationally for Black and Cuba. Currently, Ms. Pedraza is the Senior Housing Fellow at Enterprise Community Partners.

Justyn Richardson

Justyn Richardson was a former Development Associate at Progressive Pupil with an interest in community development. Prior to working with Progressive Pupil, he held other internship positions working with progressive policy at several organizations and government agencies including the New York State Division of Human Rights, the Office of  Senator Charles E. Schumer, and Booz Allen Hamilton. He received his Bachelors degree in Political Economy from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. He earned his M.S. in Urban Policy Analysis and Management at the New School in New York, NY. Currently, Mr. Richardson is a Policy Analyst at the Office of the Inspector General for the NYPD.

Shannon Smith

Shannon Smith attended Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University and received her B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. Ms. Smith then attended The New School she earned her M.A. in Media Studies. Apart from being Progressive Pupil’s former Interactive Design Associate, she is currently a Content Development Intern at Fleishman-Hillard Vanguard.


Justin Jones
MANAGING EDITOR of The Progress 

Justin Jones, a Baltimore native and former Progressive Pupil intern, received his M.F.A. from the New School. Since graduating from the Johns Hopkins University, Justin wrote and edited various publications including Wet, Papercut Press, and The Bohemian Monthly Magazine. Follow him on twitter @BMFJones

Claudie Mabry

Claudie Mabry received her M.A. in Urban Policy Analysis and Management at The New School for Public Engagement, and graduated in the spring of 2014. She formerly had a position at Progressive Pupil as a Program Associate and Social Media Designer. She contributed to the launch of the New Leaders for Social Change Leadership Program, managed projects within the Social Media Education and Outreach Program, and conducted outreach to allies and communities organizations nationwide. Ms. Mabry is currently a Project Manager at Groudswell in Brooklyn, NY.

Lauren Silver

Lauren Silver, apart from being former Social Media Design Associate at Progressive Pupil, graduated from Goucher College, earning her B.A. in Women and Gender Studies. She then earned her M.S. in Non-Profit Management from The New School. Ms. Silver is now an Office Manager at Excellence Girls, an Elementary and Middle Academy in Brooklyn, NY.

Shannon Shird

Shannon Shird is from Baltimore, MD. In addition to being Progressive Pupil’s Community Outreach Intern, she earned her M.S. at The New School’s Graduate Program in International Affairs focusing on cities, social justice, and the Black Diaspora. She came to the New School after serving as volunteer coordinator at Baltimore’s Court Appointed Special Advocates. She has her B.A. in History and International Affairs from Smith College. Her interests include racial and social justice movements, international human rights, migration and displacement, and the effects of globalization on communities of color in urban centers. Alexis Hancock

Alexis Hancock graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and earned her Bachelor of Applied Science. She continued her education at The New School where she earned her M.S. Ms. Hancock, Progressive Pupil’s former Interactive Design Associate, currently works at True North Inc, a private advertising agency.

Xiaoye Lin

Xiaoye Lin graduated from Central Academy of Fine Arts and received her B.A. in Digital Media. She then went to Parsons School of Design and received her M.F.A. Degree in Design and Technology. Apart from being Progressive Pupil’s former Interactive Design Associate, she is the founder of Handshadow Studio.

Brittany Meché
MANAGING EDITOR of The Progress 

Brittany Meché earned her B.A. at NYU in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, minoring in Politics and Africana Studies. She then received her M.A. at The New School in International Affairs. Ms. Meché, Progressive Pupil’s former Managing Editor of The Progress, is currently a PhD Candidate in Geography at University of California, Berkeley.

Malikah Shabazz

Malikah Shabazz graduated from Wayne State University and earned her M.S. in Management Information Systems. Aside from being Progressive Pupil’s former Community Outreach Associate, she received her M.A. from The New School. Currently, Ms. Shabazz is a producer at Righteous Minds Entertainment, a Company Manager/Coordinate at Soul Science Lab, and a Coordinator at Fuse TV.


Rebecca Alvy

Rebecca Alvy is a graduate from University of Washington where she received a B.A. in International Studies and a B.A. in Individualized Studies. In addition to being Progressive Pupil’s former Community Outreach Associate, she received her M.S. from The New School and a Master of Science in Organizational Change Management. Ms. Alvy is passionate about civil rights and social action, human rights, and social services. She is currently a Manager of Player Relations for the New York Knicks.

Folasade Kornegay

Folasade Kornegay, former Community Outreach Associate and Project Advisor at the New School, has a passion for media and social justice. After leaving Progressive Pupil, she worked for human rights organizations in South Africa. Because of her work internationally and domestically, she is an expert at cross-cultural communication and has skills in quantitative research and analysis. Her constant desire to learn paired with a strong work ethic and determination to contribute to a better world has helped and influenced many.
